MIRAPEX is effective in both early and late stages of Parkinson’s diseaseMIRAPEX is a drug that is approved by the FDA for treating the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease.14 In clinical studies, patients recently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease had improvement in their activities of daily living. These improvements occurred in as early as the second week of treatment.2 MIRAPEX can be used alone, or in combination with other therapies, and is effective in treating both early and advanced stages of the disease.3,4
When used as initial therapy, it helps patients maintain their everyday activities. This is true no matter what stage of Parkinson’s disease they are in.2 MIRAPEX can be used as a single therapy during the early stages of Parkinson's disease. In fact, after 4 years of therapy, there is a 41% chance of remaining on MIRAPEX alone without the need to add levodopa.3 Levodopa may then be spared often for several years until needed. (Levodopa significantly improves symptoms for most patients. However, as the disease advances, the benefits of the drug last for shorter and shorter periods of time.25) A levodopa-friendly therapyMIRAPEX also can be used with levodopa. This may allow patients to take a lower dose of levodopa. Using MIRAPEX in combination with levodopa can help make the benefits of levodopa last longer. Studies show that when MIRAPEX is added to levodopa therapy, patients have improved functioning. MIRAPEX increased the patient’s daily “on” time by as much as 2 hours.4,5 MIRAPEX has been shown to be very effective in improving tremor. A study showed that the majority of patients taking MIRAPEX saw an improvement in tremor symptoms.17 To find out if MIRAPEX is right for you or your loved one, talk with your doctor.
