Doctors must make many decisions

Several drugs can be used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. However, doctors must make many decisions about them before and during drug therapy. These decisions include:

when each patient should begin taking drugs
which drug(s) would benefit them the most
when to change the dose(s) of these medicines

Your doctor may involve you in many of these decisions. And it’s always good for you to take an active role in your care. If you are currently seeing a doctor and have been prescribed any medicines, such as MIRAPEX, it’s important to follow the dosing schedule your doctor prescribes.

Follow your doctor’s instructions closely

The drugs described in this section work within the complex chemistry of the human brain. Adding new drugs to that chemistry should be done with caution and under the supervision of your doctor.

Medical experts advise that doctors should start their patients on low doses of Parkinson’s disease medicine. They should then gradually increase the dosages as needed.²⁵ Patients who take these drugs should never change the amount they take without first talking to their doctor.

Important Information about MIRAPEX: MIRAPEX® (pramipexole dihydrochloride) Tablets are indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease.

Patients have reported falling asleep without any warning signs during activities of daily living, including operation of a motor vehicle, which sometimes resulted in accidents. Hallucinations and dizziness upon standing may occur.

The most commonly reported adverse events in early and late disease in clinical trials were dizziness, involuntary movement, hallucinations, headache, difficulty falling asleep, sleepiness and nausea.

Patients and caregivers should be informed that impulse control disorders/compulsive behaviors may occur while taking medicines, including pramipexole, to treat Parkinson's disease.
