MANAGING PARKINSON'S DISEASE AT EVERY STAGE
Advanced Stages
Symptoms that may appear later
Parkinson's disease is a disease that progresses over time. Over many years, its symptoms become more noticeable and more symptoms appear. This is why talking to your doctor about treatment is so important. The following symptoms may or may not be seen in more advanced stages of the disease:9
- Facial masking
This can occur if muscles in the face become rigid. A still facial expression with fewer blinks of the eyes can result. With successful treatment, however, this symptom sometimes disappears.
- Difficulty swallowing
This can happen if the person has less control over the muscles in the back of his or her throat. However, severe difficulty in swallowing is rare.
MIRAPEX may help
The good news is that prescription MIRAPEX has been shown to be effective in treating patients with some of these symptoms.13 MIRAPEX may lessen the slowness, stiffness, and tremor you may be having.12,18,19 Daily activities may be easierwriting letters to friends, playing with your grandchildren, or simply having a cup of tea.
MIRAPEX is the most commonly prescribed prescription dopamine agonist (DOPE-a-meen AG-oh-nist).20 It is used to reduce and relieve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Ask your doctor whether it may be right for you.
